Additional Questions
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a branch of physical medicine. Physical medicine deals with the use of hands-on therapies to naturally treat musculoskeletal injuries. Chiropractic traditionally deals with regulating the nervous system by applying chiropractic adjustments to the spine. However, Chiropractic in the year 2010 has evolved to include a variety of additionally beneficial therapies. Joint manipulation in the arms and legs, muscle therapies, rehabilitative exercise, nutritional augmentation, and even acupuncture can all play a role in the modern Chiropractic office.
Other branches of physical medicine include: Acupuncture, Massage Therapy, and Physical Therapy. The use of these therapies is in direct contrast with the modern medical system, which relies heavily on pharmaceuticals and surgical interventions. Therefore, they are often called “Alternative Healthcare”.
How can Chiropractic care benefit my family and I?
Chiropractic is a unique form of healthcare in that you don’t need to be sick to benefit from it. Chiropractic care can be used in a proactive role to prevent the appearance of injuries and promote a higher level of overall well-being. Many Chiropractic patients report that they sleep better, get sick less often, and have more energy as the result of their ongoing treatments. Many people wait until their health has deteriorated to the point that sickness or injury arise. But there is an ever-increasing number of patients that realize the value of prevention and make Chiropractic a part of their wellness strategy.
Some said, “Once you go to a Chiropractor, you always have to go.” Is this true?
This is only partially true.
Computer use at work, emotional stress at home, or physical stress from exercise can all cause a decrease in our body’s health status. Chiropractic can help offset the stress and strain we place on our body’s on a daily basis. Once someone has been under Chiropractic care, they understand what its like to feel good again. Many patients then freely choose to continue their care on a maintenance basis to keep their body functioning at its highest level of health.
Is Chiropractic safe?
Chiropractic is currently one the the safest and most effective forms of care for musculoskeletal complaints. In the extensive scientific literature that has explored Chiropractic, it is incredibly rare for participants to report side-effects to care. In my 10 years as a Chiropractor I have personally treated thousands of patients. The most common complaint following an adjustment is minor muscle soreness. I’ve found this occurs in about 10% of visits. The remaining 90% of treatments result in no significant symptoms. Even in cases when patient’s do report post-treatment soreness; they also feel the benefits of care including: improved mobility, decreased muscle tension, and an enhanced sense of well being.
What are the costs associated with Chiropractic care?
Like anything, the costs of Chiropractic care can be variable depending on the types of therapy provided and your geographic location. Chiropractic care is covered under many major health insurances. Even for patient’s without coverage, Chiropractic therapies are very affordable. A standard office visit costs less than a meal out, and several hundreds of dollars less than a visit to the emergency room.
Chiropractic care is one of the greatest bargains in our modern healthcare system.
Is it safe to be adjusted during pregnancy?
My wife is currently pregnant (due July 6th, 2010) and she gets adjusted regularly. Many pregnant women enjoy safe and effective adjustments throughout all three trimesters of their pregnancy. A small amount of scientific literature does exist and has shown that women who receive Chiropractic throughout their pregnancy have shorter labors, and increased birth weight – and without a single report of any significant side-effects.
Whats more, women who have received Chiropractic care during their pregnancy can attest to its benefits… Just ask my wife!
